DIALECT AND SPEECH COACHING
|
Chantal’s teaching was so effective that frequently I was asked from what part of Saint Lucia was my family. Perhaps, Chantal’s secret tools are her people skills and her cheerful disposition. Chantal Jean-Pierre is a keeper.

CHANTAL'S PROCESS
As a connoisseur of language, dialect is another passion for Chantal. She enjoys the process of discovering musicality, rhythm, pace and specific characteristics of different regionalisms nationally and internationally. Hence, she is highly proficient at specifically designing an outline (vowels and consonants, scored musicality) for individual actors in addition to entire casts. Her methods emphasize authenticity and fluidity of that specific dialect. She provides supplemental materials (i.e. sample recordings, detailed analysis sheet with sample words and text) to ensure integration of exercises with text. In addition she attends rehearsals regularly to work with group and/or individuals to address distinct challenges, incorporate an appropriate dialect warm-up, provide adjustments on stage, and monitor continuous progress of cast. Chantal has taught Dialects at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, Brown/Trinity MFA, and SUNY Purchase, Theater Art program.

“Forty-three years as a performing artist, and my persistent inadequacy involves the mastering of dialects. So, you can imagine my anxiety, when cast as Makak, the central character in Derek Walcott’s Dream on Monkey Mountain, the setting of which is the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. What to do, what to do?
To the rescue came Chantal Jean-Pierre, dialect and voice coach extraordinaire. Chantal’s coaching had been well researched, her methodology tested and proven, and her knowledge of the appropriate dialect authentic.
Chantal’s teaching was so effective that frequently I was asked from what part of Saint Lucia was my family. Perhaps, Chantal’s secret tools are her people skills and her cheerful disposition. Chantal Jean-Pierre is a keeper.
